Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51M Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extra-inning matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a combined over 50 million spectators across the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball announced this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game drew 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English program in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match series drew 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total American average reached over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09M watchers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen various tongues.
